And of course they are satisfied. Why? Because those garbage computer literate guys dare to call themselves designers. Not everyone who knows what is a patch cable or HTML code is a web designer. People are scammed all the time and they believe they got the best service possible for the lowest price. Oh yes, SEO, CMS and everything included but real design and style. Sure it is a start and I had customers who realized that the friend who made the website for free might be not the best bet. So they came to me and they were satisfied. I did not make any SEO, optimization or any extra. All I did is a good quality website with style. And voila, the business reported that sales grew. No SEO, no optimization, no additional ideas and function. Pure professional design. Anyway, I hope these made up designer will die out so we can have a place once. No longer I want to pay for quality leads.
Imagine, I just registered at a uk website where people ask for qualified web designers. There were some good prices. People with £4000 budget. That’s not a bad deal. I went into one and bough a contact, event planner website. Okay, I phone the lady, she doies not take it. I emailed her and no answer. After some days I could phone her but she was busy. Then I got an email saying that she got a better offer. She had £4000-4900 budget, so I bid £4000. Guess how much did the other guy offered? £599… I told her that I’m not sure she will get what she wants but I got no answer to that email. That lead, to buy the contact information of the lady cost me £25. Craze.
Oh, yes and I made cold calling as well. People are satisfied with what they have and sometimes even hang up the phone when I mentioned the mythical word “web site” or “web design”. Oh yes, these gangster “web designers” have made the industry so much down, I don’t even know what to say. I tried to apply for jobs without success.
The cool thing is that I have still a laptop and internet. So that’s fine because I can blog and I love to blog even though sometimes not really. Anyway, I don’t need to be bugged by stupid people any longer. Hope it will work out. And yes next to this, I will open a model site and take pictures. Yeah, models are nice faces and I will enjoy taking photos of them and getting them some jobs.
So things go fine, UX and usability still rock!

I was so impressed with the latest 2.8.2 that I had to tell the world Wordpress 2.8.2 is a masterpiece. So I just clicked on the 2.8.3 version upgrade and I did not realize and good change. Now I realize some bad changes. I want to delete a plugin and wordpress tells me that it was deleted but it’s still there. Even from FTP I’m not able to delete the plugin directory. Some plugins are deactivate and when I want to activate them Wordpress tells me that the plugin files are not found, so I want to delete the plugin but Wordpress keeps telling me that the plugin files are not found. I go to my FTP client and want to delete the plugin which I cannot. Somone plz?

It was an IM-History program I tested and it didn’t work. It crashed, froze, had bugs, application error, abnormal program termination etc.). Upon uninstallation certain softwares asks you the reason of dropping them. I usually don’t fill out this form because I was bugged and at the end they bug me again wit their question. I also don’t like if after uninstalling a software it opens the web browser and there gives me a “buy the full version” or survey page. It’s bothering really.
This software was different, I don’t really remember what the last screen of the uninstallation process showed but it was another feeling. It said something like “We understand if you are unsatisfied, if you want to help us describe below the reason” instead of “Reason of uninstallation:” or “Please tell us the reason why did you uninstalaled the software:”. The words you communicate with unsatisfied users tells a lot about your willingness of change. It also shows how much you really care about your real users whether they buy, download, install your product or not. And that’s a great thing.
I told them: No history was shown, if you can fix it I would register again. I’m just bugged to ask always some support team that answers after 2 weeks.
The same thing apllies to blogs, eshops etc. When your reader unsubscribes do you tell them how great it was that they once subscribed? Do you let your shoppers have a good user experience by letting them decide and go without popping up “you have some items in your basket”?

I downloaded Driver Checker to find that bugging peripheral driver that my Windows Vista asks for after plugging in my cheap but new Made-In-China bluetooth dongle. Broadcom was updating its driver so it was not available for download. I did not find mirrors. Really. It was craze. In a blog post I read that this Driver Checker could solve my problem. So to download and install. Usually I don’t read the licence of a free software but now I had the feeling to do so…
Driver Checker EULA
1.1 License Uses – Personal
1.1.1 By agreeing to the terms and conditions of this agreement, acknowledged by the actions stated above, the Licensor gives you, the Licensee, a non exclusive, non commercial, non transferable, revocable, limited license to the software for use on one personal computer, where the computer has no more than one microprocessor.
Ok, and what about new gereation machines with dual core? That is not allowed? It seems that Mr Driver Checker software engineer was not informed well about the new trends. Who understands programmers.

Not only the look but the user experience have been improved with the 2.7 version, and version 2.8 fixed most of the usability problems. I’m totally excited that I can add themes as they are zipped by uploading them just as I do with plugins. So I don’t need to bug my FTP client… Plugin installation and update became just a second in spite of the previously experienced several minutes. Some updates also failed and popped some error. I could try several times I could not delete a plugin or update, delete, deactivate etc. Now, it really became superfast and that takes away some of my headaches. Actually I can use everything very easily and WordPress became an even more handy CMS blog system. If I could change one thing, that would be the “Visit site” to replace uncerline with none, it’s so ugly when you have a nice button and it become underlined. Wordpress rocks!

Announced today some hours ago, Google has updated their AdWords interface. Just checked it out and it seems that the search engine try to standardize its product interfaces goes on well. Still a bit awkward Google Analytics-like chart but the design is all right and nice. It’s a nice update from the old-google-like interface style to a new flashy user experience. While in Google Analytics they successfully implemented flash charts to glitter your eyes, AdWords Beta comes with an image based chart. No bubbles at dates, only a straightforward vertical line to show you what you campaign has reached at a time. Interesting to see the same concept in a rather CSS-like design. It seems though that the Ajax sidebar yet needs some correction as it strangely stretches while scrolling up and down. Usability 5*, Accessibility 5* User Experience 4* Design 4*. FULL ARTICLE +

Anyway, I’m back and that’s a good news. And you folks are awesome. You still read my articles and I realised some more subscribers to my not finished blog that gives me a push to write. Still, I was really wondering… Why on earth is good to be a subscriber, not to the RSS feed but to a WP blog.
So this is what I did, I signed up myself under barnabasnagy as a guest-subscriber and tried to look around what can I get there. Actually, I’ve set up 2 subscriber accounts already weeks ago and the only thing I found there is nude wordpress. FULL ARTICLE +

The government of Belgium ahead of any nation chose to have Open Office their standard and official software instead of Microsoft’s Office Suit. This decision came after the Open Document format was ratified by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) ahead of Microsoft’s XML format that probably needs to wait still some years to get the same rate as OD.
This is a great news for freebee lovers, as I am. I don’t really buy softwares because usually all paying software has a free alternative. I pay only for Windows operating system because I don’t get along with Linux. And I paid for Vegas Video software because there was no really good free alternative for video editing and production. The rest is all freeware. I have a bunch of them and with most of them I am very satisfied. They served me well thoughout the years.
In US, the Obama administration also asked about the benefits of open source software in governmental institutes, but I don’t know if they adopted it as Belgium did. Anyway, Belgian people shook down the mess from the freeware and through a cake into the face of the old age Microsoft Office standard. And that’s great news. I also use Open Office myself for years and I’m just satisfied with it. The software had some lacks of features and their look was not as Word or Excel. This changed over the year as they partnered up with Sun Microsystems and their latest version is not far from Microsoft Office’s usability and look.

I have been watching people use various networks for years and for the average user their contributions and participations have multiple motivation factors. For the power user, the marketer, the brand, or the promoter it seems clear to me that their goal, even though they don’t actually know it or define it as such, is to get to the broadcast position.
Clay Shirky talks about the broadcast position in his book “Here Comes Everybody”. In his breakdown of the power law distribution and the impact it has on communication Shirky talks about how conversations shift. FULL ARTICLE +

What if you had a plugin you would activate and you could provide your readers the possibilities to take your article wherever they want on their mp3 players? Sounds nice right? Huh? How to make that? Well, you have the option to make as technologyreview does with a commercial audio podcasting service, namely: AudioDizer – Good news: there is a better option. It is called odiogo and it’s totally free! I’m not joking listen to my article by clicking on the “listen now” button under my title. By the way I wanted to drop some lines about the latest WordPress upgrade. First time I installed it I felt I’m using a platform I’ve never used. I felt chaos, the buttons looked ugly, some still do. So then I downgraded, I had to find the old version at oldapps.com… No matter, I gave it another chance when I launched barnabasnagy.net and installed the newest stable version 2.7 and after a while I started liking it. But really it’s not as bad as it seemed, I had to switch to blue scheme from the default gray and it was already better. FULL ARTICLE +

But as I said yesterday in my post I was keen on getting know what on earth is so good on these devices. So I read and read, one article after the other praising how great touch screens are. I don’t swallow things easily so I read and read on technologyreview better and better articles until I found this one: Touch Screens for Many Fingers and saw the recommended videos. Those video’s really made me amazed, I saw before my eyes the “Minority Report” movie in real and much more. I liked this real one even better, without movie effects and scenes. Simple and clean technology speaks for it’s own.

I found it still at the touchscreen section of my reading tour. “Accidentally” I hovered over the share button and then I was keen on checking what’s there – somehow I’m really doing this collecting as many social sharing sites in order to boost my traffic, though I did not have yet much boost.
