Does somebody have experience with GoBIG network?

Because of the modeling portfolio site that I plan to launch I started to look for investors and I got across gobig. One time fee would be $176 and there are investors with bucks. I just need some accessories and a studio place to lease for which I have no budget at the moment. I’m not sure if these networking sites really work are they are just waste of time. I registered anyway for free, but to list anything I need to upgrade my account. Is it worthwile? Does it pay back? Any ideas how to get investors into new startups?

People have garbage websites but they have already a designer

And of course they are satisfied. Why? Because those garbage computer literate guys dare to call themselves designers. Not everyone who knows what is a patch cable or HTML code is a web designer. People are scammed all the time and they believe they got the best service possible for the lowest price. Oh yes, SEO, CMS and everything included but real design and style. Sure it is a start and I had customers who realized that the friend who made the website for free might be not the best bet. So they came to me and they were satisfied. I did not make any SEO, optimization or any extra. All I did is a good quality website with style. And voila, the business reported that sales grew. No SEO, no optimization, no additional ideas and function. Pure professional design. Anyway, I hope these made up designer will die out so we can have a place once. No longer I want to pay for quality leads.

Imagine, I just registered at a uk website where people ask for qualified web designers. There were some good prices. People with £4000 budget. That’s not a bad deal. I went into one and bough a contact, event planner website. Okay, I phone the lady, she doies not take it. I emailed her and no answer. After some days I could phone her but she was busy. Then I got an email saying that she got a better offer. She had £4000-4900 budget, so I bid £4000. Guess how much did the other guy offered? £599… I told her that I’m not sure she will get what she wants but I got no answer to that email. That lead, to buy the contact information of the lady cost me £25. Craze.

Oh, yes and I made cold calling as well. People are satisfied with what they have and sometimes even hang up the phone when I mentioned the mythical word “web site” or “web design”. Oh yes, these gangster “web designers” have made the industry so much down, I don’t even know what to say. I tried to apply for jobs without success.

The cool thing is that I have still a laptop and internet. So that’s fine because I can blog and I love to blog even though sometimes not really. Anyway, I don’t need to be bugged by stupid people any longer. Hope it will work out. And yes next to this, I will open a model site and take pictures. Yeah, models are nice faces and I will enjoy taking photos of them and getting them some jobs.

So things go fine, UX and usability still rock!

No web design, no more

It seems my web design career has just ended after endless tries to get customers, and to get my customers pay. I arrived in the UK, settled down in Luton with mixed cultures in the city and within 2 month I got 4 people to work for and none of them paid. I’m not sure how it’s gonna go further but it seems ver deep. I mean the whole. I just work and work and got nothing but stupid people. People say they can’t afford my services, then I go down with my prices, sign the contract, finish the work and they do not want to pay saying that the website is not done. All right then. I look for other ways to earn because this not only pulls me down but does not give me any money. I have 4 small claims that will probaly go to court. I have enough. I am here fully blogging. Dear folks, you who liked me write here. Here I am, I am writing to you. I still think I have a good sense of usuability, user experience, and business. So I will write on these topics next to web. Packard Bell Have No Sense Of Customer Care And English

I must share with all of you with this story with Packard Bell… I wanted to buy a cheap laptop for my wife so she can help me out with blogging and web design. Now, I found a Packard Bell on Pixmania. I simply wanted to know if the 1GB RAM in the machine is 1×1GB or 2X512MB RAM because I met such laptop where they divided the 1GB, just as my Toshiba Satellite A200 1M4. Pixmania has no contact information in the Czech site. I try to phone Pixmania UK, America, getting from them know that they can’t know this information so I have to contact the producer that is Packard Bell. Packard Bell, officially has no branch in the Czech Republic, and the specific model is available in the UK and Germany. So I phone UK, where the telephone number for international tecnical support does not work. So I phone the UK technical support team who tells me that I phone a wrong country and they need a serial number to help me out with my question. Here I got a bit angry and I said I want to buy the product so I have no serial number yet. So they advice me to contact the retailer, which is again Pixmania. I tried to call other UK retailers for the same product and they told me that I have to contact Packard Bell for this specific question. So I started emailing Packard Bell… FULL ARTICLE +

LinkedIn rechecked: a good Business Social Media site

I found my profile again on LinkedIn work well to be expanded for a broader Business Venture tool. After my Twitter trial I got some invitations so therefore I got caught on LinkedIn and on my for-months-not-updated profile to update…

So overall, I liked what I saw, I found some new tools they implemented on the site like WordPress blog badge, Poll, Twitter Buzz etc – great tools. I joined some groups as well for the expectatinon to extend my business realtions.

Next to this I was keen on finding this little LinkedIn badge that I saw on several sites but have not found among the LinkedIn tool library. Bad on them! They should harness a bit more the Open Source internet. Ebay seller cheated me and now it cannot be solved

Back to June 2008 I bought on ebay a wonderful Chinese, noname 16GB pendrive because that was what I was longing for. You know, backup and so on. So I got the product quite late, though I got it. There was a little defect that the metal cover was not fitting onto the drive and it would whirl around… So I contacted the seller and he offered me replacement. I went into it, he got the pendrive quite late, but at last he got it. Then he said he sent it, and I still wait for it…. Yes, since august. I contacted ebay several times, but I was too late, I was over the 60 day protected period. So what they offered is to contact the seller. Well, sure, I contacted him thousand times on email what is going on, where’s my pendrive. No answer. Silence. So with this I did not become more clever but I got his phone number. And guess what? The phone number does not work, it speaks me some Chinese blah blah and then it says to me in English that this number is not … I don’t know the word. Anyway, this makes me angry. I lost by this some $ 30 and it’s not fun with my budget.

And yeah, I get know from ebay that the seller cancelled his account in the meantime so they can’t do much. Great.

Belgian government choses Open Document as standard

The government of Belgium ahead of any nation chose to have Open Office their standard and official software instead of Microsoft’s Office Suit. This decision came after the Open Document format was ratified by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) ahead of Microsoft’s XML format that probably needs to wait still some years to get the same rate as OD.

This is a great news for freebee lovers, as I am. I don’t really buy softwares because usually all paying software has a free alternative. I pay only for Windows operating system because I don’t get along with Linux. And I paid for Vegas Video software because there was no really good free alternative for video editing and production. The rest is all freeware. I have a bunch of them and with most of them I am very satisfied. They served me well thoughout the years.

In US, the Obama administration also asked about the benefits of open source software in governmental institutes, but I don’t know if they adopted it as Belgium did. Anyway, Belgian people shook down the mess from the freeware and through a cake into the face of the old age Microsoft Office standard. And that’s great news. I also use Open Office myself for years and I’m just satisfied with it. The software had some lacks of features and their look was not as Word or Excel. This changed over the year as they partnered up with Sun Microsystems and  their latest version is not far from Microsoft Office’s usability and look.

Delete 10 friends to eat Burger King Whopper

For sure you’ve heard about the big action of Burger King that tried to get some more clients and sell their whoppers. But what the hack is this? At the financial crisis you can eat only if you delete some friends? Is that normal?

This is like guerilla marketing like the one that happened in hungary last year. MTV hungary to launch their service put guitars into the neck of historic statues around the country making an indignation. I don’t know what is it good for but I don’t think that’s a good marketing strategy or advertisement. There are other ways than such a low profile ad.

I hate Burger King! And I think facebook does as well.

Carol Bartz to replace Jerry Yang Yahoo! CEO

I just read this on wired and I wanted to promptly makes some not about the possible transformation. Jerry Yang’s Yahoo! did not make me and I think other to be enjoy any flavour of the search eangine. There was the Microsoft issue to give over the company, the Google deal and so on.

Well, enough for me Yahoo is enough bitter all the time I hear or meet it. Not only their design makes me mad but their stupid emoticons, wide-mouth-smile messenger, their widget, email account with tons of ads. It’s just makes me crazy. Why on earth would anyone use any of Yahoo’s services while there are many and much better services to be found elsewhere, like at Google (Gmail, Google search, Gtalk etc.)

If it is true what the rumours say that Carol Bartz will replace the current CEO I think it will drive Yahoo! to total bankcrupcy. Yang kept the yahoo-smile profile while being a man, so what can we expect from a woman?! A woman would be sitting on Yahoo throne, that’s the horror.

Ok, I’ll write something else, or I rather go to retirement…

MTV’s big socially free movement for music videos – hack inside

I was really pleased reading on Current that MTV puts every videos online. Yep, so I voted it up and got to play the music in the comment section. Hey, but none!!! Restricted to US users!!! Losers. We are here in EU and just because we live somewhere else than obama we are the sick youtubers and illegal downloaders. I’d stop the world for a second and take some minute finding to figure out who is the CEO chair in MTV, I could actually google it out within a sec but I don’t care. But I would tell him some words, I’m a polite guy so just like a polite guy.

So I assume that I’m not the only hack who finds this hack in the whole story and still sticks you youtube and joost rather than FULL ARTICLE +

JPG Magazine is said to be closed till today

I  have a trial today with this post. I have a blog called MediaWared, it’s kinda  “media” stuff would-be project. But somehow it does not want to function. Sure I did not posted there for a long time, I’m off… that’s it. I partnered up with Daniel Demian a 14 ! year old succesful blogger from Romania, he is a tech guy! So he will work with me. How  young he is it’s almost not seen in his works and in his professionalism. Anyway, so I posted about the same story on that blog, I liked it on mixx, digg, reddit etc etc. I hate it really. Social Cardigan or how they say it makes me mad. People go meet online rather than in real. Craze. I tell you it’s madness. Human madness. What to do for living?

I’m really getting off writing on my blogs and waiting for good user feedback and checking the comments with zero reply rate. Why is that? I want to earn money! I also got a nice request for freelance design job by one of my commenter. I sent my samples but no respond till now. It really drives me crazy. Yesterday I still did not finish my touch-screen project, and the worse: I found dozens of more interesting topics to read (not about touch screen) so I’m gonna sink. I love to blog at last!

It was a long way to go but it seems I reach my goal with barnabasnagy.net – I start to love blogging. I know it might sound strange but as I wanted to harness the internet tool to earn money I ended up in several dead ends. Thousands of hour spent for nothing searching for advertisement options but at the end had no revenue, or pretty little. So now it was enough and I started a new phase in my career doing what I really like.
